Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton brushes aside retirement talks

Seven-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton has brushed aside talks of his retirement and said that his current aim is to improve the Mercedes car and get it back on the top of the podium.


Hamilton is said to love driving and is currently thinking about how to get his team winning again and the road map to winning another world championship. He stated that he is still on a mission and that he does not feel like giving it up any time soon as he finds it challenging.
He is right now in that part of his career where people he started out with and raced with for so long will start to stop. He feels that he may be the oldest in the lot but it has not made him think of retirement.

Justice Uday Umesh Lalit appointed CJI

Justice Uday Umesh Lalit has been appointed as the 49th Chief Justice of India. He will assume charge on August 27th after the current Chief Justice NV Ramana retires on August 26th.


Justice Lalit will however only have a very brief tenure of less than 3 months as he will turn 65 on November 8th. He was recommended to the post by the current CJI NV Ramana who expressed confidence that Justice Lalit’s long and rich experience in the Bar and on the Bench will take the judiciary to greater heights.Justice Lalit is the most senior judge and he has been appointed as CJI by the President of India under the powers conferred by clause 2 of Article 124 of the Constitution of India.

The chief guests inaugurated the exhibition at Humming Room, Khader Nawaz Khan Rd, Thousand Lights.
The exhibition was Inaugurated by Begum Seema Ahmed, Dr Roopa, Devika Madhavan Anbu and Prithi Ashwin.
The exhibition hosted by Shaams Boutique and Antara showcased exotic collections of weddings and festive ethnic wear. The guests had a glance at exquisite collections of silk sarees, lehengas, bridesmaid collections, hand embroidered ethnic blouses and festive collections. The brands Amara by Ayesha and Styled by Vesta had a spectacular display of festive ethnic dresses.
Talking about the silk saree collections, Simi Shankar, founder of Antara Weaves talked about the wide collection of exotic ethnic wear by Antara displayed at the exhibition.

Jagdeep Dhankhar takes oath as India’s 14th Vice President

Jagdeep Dhankhar, the former West Bengal Governor, took oath as the 14th Vice President of India today. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to him in a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.


The Vice President holds the second highest constitutional office in the country after the President and will act as President in case of death, resignation or removal of the President until a new President is elected.
He will hold a five year term but can continue to hold office irrespective of the expiry of his term until his successor assumes office. The Vice President has all the powers, immunities and privileges of the President. He will also receive the same allowances and emoluments that the President receives.
The Vice President also becomes the chairperson of the Rajya Sabha and he can resign from his post by submitting his resignation to the President of India.

CJI of India advises lawyers to wear masks in courtrooms

The Chief Justice of India N V Ramana advised lawyers to wear masks in court halls as many judges and staff were contracting Covid -19 infection.


He was hearing a plea on freebies along with Justice Krishna Murari on the bench when he made this request to lawyers at the start of the court proceedings.
The Solicitor General Tushar Mehta tested negative for the virus while Senior Advocate AM Singhvi tested positive.
It has been observed that the number of Covid cases are on the rise in the country and therefore citizens have been advised to wear masks, follow social distancing and make use of sanitisers.

Youth from across the world waved the Indian National Flag at the world’s largest meditation center

At least 275 youth from across the world joined in the National Tiranaga campaign at Kanha Shanti Vanam – the Heartfulness Headquarters in Hyderabad. Each of the individuals carried a national flag cheering for India in front of the world’s largest meditation centre at Kanha Shanti Vanam. The youth arrived at the Heartfulness headquarters for the International Rising With Kindness Summit which is slated between 12-14 August. The National Tiranga campaign comes a day before the Kindness summit as a tribute to 75 years of India’s independence. The event was made all the more significant with participants from other countries coming together holding the tricolour flag. The event took place at 9.00am at Kanha Shanti Vanam.

One participant said, “We are very happy to be here as part of the Heartfulness arising With Kindness Youth Summit which is coinciding with India’s 75th Independence Day. It’s a great joy to take part in these celebrations at Kanha Shantivanam along with the 275 youth in front of this magnificent meditation centre which is the world’s largest.” Yet another international participant said, “For us Heartfulness centre and India are like a home. There are so many magnificent things this country and the Heartfulness Meditation practise has to offer to us. While we are here to be part of the Heartfulness Rising with Kindness youth summit, being part of India’s Independence Celebrations brings a lot of joy to us. It was an exhilarating experience to wave the Indian flag along with the other youths here for the summit. The diversity, culture and feeling of being always welcome by this country is something that one cannot miss.”

Heartfulness has been organizing campaigns to help youth cultivate compassion and treat all equally. The upcoming Kindness summit is designed on the same idea, but even before the event kicked off, it has already attracted participants arrival at Kanha and be part of the Independence Day fervor. Many thought-leaders of repute, social media influencers and other prominent personalities and at least 10,000 participants from around the world will be at the Heartfulness Headquarters for the summit which is brought by Heartfulness, UNESCO MGIEP and AICTE  and sponsored by Reliance Industries Ltd., and Jio Digital, and cosponsored by Zscaler and Adidez Institute Worldwide.

Independence Day Celebration at Ispahani Centre

On the occasion of India’s 75th Independence Day Celebration, Ispahani Centre in collaboration with Space Kidz India, has organised a three-day event titled ‘Cultures & Cuisines’. It will be conducted at the premises of Ispahani Centre from 13th to 15th August, 2022.

Grand closing ceremony held for the 44th Chess Olympiad in Chennai

A grand closing ceremony for the 44th Chess Olympiad held in Chennai was held yesterday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister who spoke during the event said that the state was making efforts to become a global destination for sports. The next FIDE Chess Olympiad will be held at Budapest in Hungary from 10 to 23 September 2024. The flag of FIDE was handed over to Hungary.


The Olympiad in Chennai was organized in a short span of just 4 months and was held at the Four Points by Sheraton Mamallapuram Resort and Convention Centre from July 29. Players from 187 countries competed on 700 boards. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presented the medals to the winners in the open category where India”s B team won the bronze medal and Uzbekistan won gold.

Jagdeep Dhankhar to be sworn in as Vice President of India

Jagdeep Dhankhar will be sworn in as the 14th Vice President of India on the 11th of August. He was the National Democratic Alliance candidate and he received 528 votes.


Margaret Alva who was the candidate for the Opposition parties managed to get only 182 votes. Jagdeep’s victory margin is the highest in the last six Vice Presidential polls. The term of existing Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu ends today. Jagdeep will also be appointed as the ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Dhankar at his residence in Delhi to convey his greetings and best wishes. President Draupadi Murmu and several leaders congratulated Dhankhar and said that the nation will benefit from his rich and long experience of public life.

PV Sindhu wins gold in Commonwealth Games 2022

PV Sindhu won a gold medal in the women’s singles event in badminton in the Commonwealth Games 2022 by defeating Michelle Li of Canada in straight sets. She defeated the 27 year old Michelle 21-15, 21-13 at the NECBadminton Show Court.


This is Sindhu’s maiden singles gold medal in the history of the Commonwealth Games. Both Sindhu and Michelle were neck-on-neck but Sindhu managed to take the lead and pushed her opponent on the backfoot.
After Sindhu won gold, she was praised by her countrymen. With this win, Sindhu has achieved a milestone in her career. Michelle won silver and went on her knees after losing the match.
