A grand closing ceremony for the 44th Chess Olympiad held in Chennai was held yesterday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister who spoke during the event said that the state was making efforts to become a global destination for sports. The next FIDE Chess Olympiad will be held at Budapest in Hungary from 10 to 23 September 2024. The flag of FIDE was handed over to Hungary.


The Olympiad in Chennai was organized in a short span of just 4 months and was held at the Four Points by Sheraton Mamallapuram Resort and Convention Centre from July 29. Players from 187 countries competed on 700 boards. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presented the medals to the winners in the open category where India”s B team won the bronze medal and Uzbekistan won gold.
