Jagdeep Dhankhar to be sworn in as Vice President of India

Jagdeep Dhankhar will be sworn in as the 14th Vice President of India on the 11th of August. He was the National Democratic Alliance candidate and he received 528 votes.


Margaret Alva who was the candidate for the Opposition parties managed to get only 182 votes. Jagdeep’s victory margin is the highest in the last six Vice Presidential polls. The term of existing Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu ends today. Jagdeep will also be appointed as the ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Dhankar at his residence in Delhi to convey his greetings and best wishes. President Draupadi Murmu and several leaders congratulated Dhankhar and said that the nation will benefit from his rich and long experience of public life.
