Indians constitute highest chunk of non-UK born residents in England and Wales

0

The UK’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) has found that Indians constitute the highest chunk of non-UK born residents in England and Wales and that nearly one in six people living there were born outside the country.

The statistics based on the country’s 2021 census data shows that the number of Indians were 920,000 followed by Polish who numbered 743,000 and Pakistanis at 624,000. London remained the region that had the largest proportion of people born outside the UK and the largest proportion of people with non-UK passports.
The census shows how the make-up of the population has changed in the past decade. Migration in the year prior to the census was lower in 2021 than it was in 2011 and it was mainly due to restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic. This data however does not include the UK’s devolved regions of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
