British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced that the crowning of King Charles III on May 6, 2023, will be celebrated across the country with an extra bank holiday on Monday, the 8th of May.

King Charles became King after his mother Queen Elizabeth passed away in September but the crowning ceremony will take place only in May 2023. In fact Queen Elizabeth’s coronation way back in 1953 was accompanied by an extra bank holiday and so the same tradition will be followed during the coronation of King Charles III.
The coronation of a new monarch is said to be a unique moment for the country. This historic occasion will be held at London’s Westminster Abbey and will follow the same traditions used for anointing monarchs for the last 1,000 years.
