Retired HC Chief Justice becomes Chairman of Law Commission

Retired High Court Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, Justice Rituraj Awasthi has been appointed as the chairperson of the law commission. This was announced by Law Minister Kiren Rijju.


Justice KT Sankaran, Prof. Anand Paliwal, Prof DP Verma, Prof (Dr) Raka Arya and M.Karunanithi have been appointed as members of the Commission. The official notification was not immediately available but taking into consideration the date of its constitution, its term should end in February next year.
The government plans to bring up the issue relating to the Uniform Civil Code before this 22nd law commission. It is usually this law panel that advises the government on complex legal issues. The Uniform Civil Code requires an in-depth study of the provisions of various personal laws that govern different communities.
