Imran Khan in jail, complains about insects

Imran Khan, former prime minister of Pakistan, has been imprisoned and charged with corruption in the Toshakhana case. He is currently in the Attock jail and has complained that his cell is infested with flies and insects and wishes to be taken out from there.

The 70 year old cricketer turned politician was arrested on Saturday after he was sentenced to three years imprisonment by a trial court in Islamabad and found guilty of corrupt practices.
Imran Khan has appealed against this order of conviction and has filed an appeal before the Islamabad High Court.
His lawyer alleged that he visited Imran Khan in jail after getting permission from the jail authorities and found that he was being kept in distressing conditions.

Author of Elon Musk’s biography shares unseen photos of Musk’s house

Walter Isaacson is writing a biography on Elon Musk, the world’s richest man. He has shared pictures of the house that Musk currently lives in. It is a 2 bedroom house in Boca Chica, Texas.

Musk had sold five grand houses in 2020 before moving to the current house. Walter Isaacson has stated that he would reveal the reasons why Musk chose to stay in this two bedroom house in his forthcoming book. This much awaited book will be available to the public from the 12th of September this year.
He has also written a biography on Apple Inc founder Steve Jobs  For two years, he shadowed Musk, attended all his meetings and spent time interviewing Musk, his family, friends, co-workers to write the biography. The book will have details on Musk’s childhood and his life as a whole.

This International Tigers Day, Hotel Royal Orchid Bangalore unveiled its commitment to Tiger Conservation and initiated a 45-day campaign in support of the cause. The establishment declared that Rs. 100 from every bill generated across all the 9 Tiger Trail restaurants in India, will be allocated to the cause of Tiger conservation.

The event commenced with opening remarks from the Assistant Vice President of Operations, Hari Sukumar. In this speech, he highlighted the importance of International Tiger Day and emphasized the significance of the occasion in raising awareness about protecting this iconic animal. “The Tiger plays a pivotal role in maintaining the food chain and in doing that manages the whole ecosystem. Project Tiger was started in 1973 with the aim of protecting this magnificent beast and its natural habitat but despite best efforts the numbers dwindled; at the turn of the century though in 2010, India along with 12 other countries signed this agreement to double the number of Tigers by 22 and we have been quite successful in doing that. Hotel Royal Orchid’s efforts will be to support that endeavour through this contribution.” he said.

Following that, Deepak Irudaya, the F&B Manager, proceeded to introduce the entire Tiger Trail Team and each member’s role in the collective endeavour of wildlife conservation.

During the event, a comprehensive presentation unfolded, delving into the rich history of Tiger Trail. The restaurant’s menu has been thoughtfully crafted to incorporate dishes from cities representing tiger conservation sites in India. The presentation also highlighted past initiatives and successful collaborations with various conservation organizations, underscoring the positive impact the restaurant has had on Tiger conservation.

Furthermore, during the event, the restaurant presented the longest Kebab platter ever seen in Bengaluru! This remarkable 5 feet long platter features 15 varieties of Kebabs, 5 types of breads, and 4 dips. Australian woman survives fall from seven storey building but is critical

A 20 year Australian woman named Tominey Reid, miraculously survived after falling from a seven storey building in Melbourne but is in a critical condition. She is battling for life at the Intensive Care Unit in Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital.

Her parents were informed about the accident at 1.30 in the morning. The woman is undergoing many life saving surgeries since then but her road to recovery is said to be long and challenging.
Tominey’s aunt Kirsten Small created a GoFundMe page to support the family and has raised $43500 so far. The goal is to reach $50,000.
Her parents said that their daughter is a brave woman and will emerge from this battle even stronger than before. Hospital staff have termed Tominey a survivor and that her survival is a miracle for which they are thankful.

Thief in the US plays with dog after stealing bicycle

A thief in the United States entered a garage and stole an Electra three-speed bicycle worth $1300 recently. Just as he was about to leave with the bicycle. The family’s dog, a Golden Retriever, was seen playing with the thief instead of barking at him or attacking him.

The San Diego Police Department shared the CCTV footage on Instagram to get some information on the suspect. Footage shows the dog instead of barking at the suspect, giving him a friendly greeting and inviting him to play with it.The intruder is seen cuddling the dog and even giving it some belly rubs.
Golden Retrievers are said to be friendly and sociable and they hardly act with suspicion even when seeing a stranger.
According to the police, the thief was a white male, around 30 years old wearing a gray shirt, a blue and white hat and orange athletic shoes.

Pope Francis participated in World Youth Day programme held in Lisbon

Pope Francis who is 86 years old took part in the World Youth Day programme held in Lisbon from August 2 to August 6. He asked the 1.5 million youth who were in attendance to build a joyful church that is open to all.

He presided over a meeting on August 2, with Portuguese bishops, priests and religious pastoral workers and conveyed a message that the church is a place not only for the good and righteous but also for the bad, the sinners and basically for everyone.
The Pope had a packed agenda for the tour and had private meetings with several groups and individuals at the Vatican nunciature in Lisbon where he was staying. He celebrated mass on August 6 with 1.5 million young people at Lisbon’s riverside Tejo Park. He also listened to testimonies and had interactions with the youth.
The Pope announced that the  next World Youth Day will be held in Seoul, South Korea in 2027.
