Pope Francis participated in World Youth Day programme held in Lisbon

Pope Francis who is 86 years old took part in the World Youth Day programme held in Lisbon from August 2 to August 6. He asked the 1.5 million youth who were in attendance to build a joyful church that is open to all.

He presided over a meeting on August 2, with Portuguese bishops, priests and religious pastoral workers and conveyed a message that the church is a place not only for the good and righteous but also for the bad, the sinners and basically for everyone.
The Pope had a packed agenda for the tour and had private meetings with several groups and individuals at the Vatican nunciature in Lisbon where he was staying. He celebrated mass on August 6 with 1.5 million young people at Lisbon’s riverside Tejo Park. He also listened to testimonies and had interactions with the youth.
The Pope announced that the  next World Youth Day will be held in Seoul, South Korea in 2027.
