Dark lipstick can make it seem like you’re trying to be Rihanna or just maybe a tab bit confused about when Halloween is. Don’t be that Girl! Here’s a guide to keep you from falling into those traps.
1. Save your burgundy-coloured lipstick for evening events.
Textured, heavier fabrics in navy, deep greens, and even some reds are a perfect fit with burgundy, plum, or bordeaux shades.
2. Know what shade will suit you best.
If you have dark eyes a brown burgundy will bring them out more. A blue-based burgundy on the other hand, isn’t too light or too dark, so it can be worn by women with light or dark eye colours. A deep-red burgundy is perfect for those with thick, dark tresses
3. Always take the colour for a test drive
Don’t be content if you have just tested the colour on the palm of your hand, apply it and see if the colour works for you. If the lipstick lights up your complexion, that’s the shade for you.
4. De-fuzz your top lip
You also make sure that there’s no hair on your upper lip. You have no idea what attention – and the wrong kind of attention – that dark shadow brings to your mouth.
5. Apply your lipstick with a lip brush
The best way to put on burgundy lipstick is with a lip brush.
Dark shades can get messy quickly — even more so than red lip color — so you want to be sure you’re precise when putting it on.
6. Apply liner later
Once you’ve applied your lipstick with a lip brush, run your liner in a matching shade along the perimeter of your lips to give them a borderline.
7. Skip the glossy finish
There’s nothing wrong with adding lip gloss over your usual lip colour to make it standout more, but this shade doesn’t need any help in the attention-getting department.
8. Wear it with confidence.
