Pioneer in the beauty industry with many firsts to her credit and India’s most sought after Cosmetic Physician, Dr Jamuna Pai who has made millions of people look and stay beautiful and groomed winners of the Miss India pageant for the last 24 years, shares her insight on her journey and the story of SkinLab. Dr Jamuna Pai, Rajathi Kalimuthan, the franchise owner of the Bengaluru and Chennai branches and actor Shraddha Shrinath launched SkinLab’s first clinic in Chennai recently. RITZ Magazine meets the skintillitating duo…


What were you doing before you opened SkinLab and how did you decide to get into this? How did the collaboration with Jamuna Pai happen?

I was working in the IT industry for a MNC serving various Banking giants in the Investment Banking domain. I have always had a passion and interest in skincare and I was looking for an opportunity to start my own business in the same domain. I am an ardent follower and admirer of Dr Pai and I am a client turned Associate partner for Dr. Jamuna Pai’s SkinLab. Dr. Pai was planning to expand in the south and when I expressed my interest in associating with her she was more than happy to give it and SkinLab Bengaluru was started in 2016. It worked out as a double delight for me as I started my own venture as well as the opportunity to work with a legend in the cosmetology industry in India. The association was so successful that we launched SkinLab Chennai this August.

Which cities are you present in and what do your clients like about your place?

SkinLab is head quartered in Mumbai and present in various cities such as Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Baroda and Raipur. It is our aim to provide personalised and professional client care to everyone who walks through our doors. Apart from our exacting medical standards, the results they get from our treatments we also pride ourselves on providing our clients with a private and comfortable experience in a hygienic, relaxed and elegant environment. I am the associate partner for Bengaluru and Chennai. I’m based in Bengaluru but I keep travelling to Chennai very often.

What is your daily schedule like and how do you keep yourself updated with the latest developments in the beauty industry?

I am a morning person. I typically wake up between 5am to 5.30am. After relishing a hot cup of coffee and doing my exercise I leave to the clinic around 9 AM. I plan my day thoroughly in the morning and execute it without any stress. I leave the clinic after my meetings at about 7pm everyday. I am fortunate to have a strong team who supports and believes in my vision.I keep myself updated by attending various trainings.

What are your other passions and hobbies?

I love reading books and keeping myself updated on the latest fashion and beauty trends. I also love watching movies. I’m very passionate about my work and serving my clients with the best of skin care treatments and look forward to expanding SkinLab across South India.

What is your fitness and beauty routine?

I follow a low sugar diet, exercise atleast 3 to 4 times a week. I drink 3 to 4 cups of green tea in a day and keep a tab on my weight. I never forget to pamper myself by doing a facial treatment or a body treatment at regular intervals.

Skin Care Tips

Follow the CTM technique Cleanser-Toner-Moisturiser skin care regime. Make sure that you always remove your makeup before you go to sleep. Never forget to apply sunscreen even on a rainy day when you step out which helps to protect your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. If you have acne prone skin make sure that you use products that are noncomedogenic so that it doesn’t tend to block the pores. And never forget the importance of exercising, sleeping atleast 8 hours and drinking adequate water. Always take time out for yourself in your busy schedule to do a professional cleanup or facial regularly for a glowing, hydrated and radiant skin.
