Rajinikanth to receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Superstar Rajinikanth will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This award is considered to be the highest honour for an artiste in Indian cinema. The award carries with it a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl and a cash prize of Rs 10,00,000. Actor Amitabh Bachchan received this prestigious award in the year 2018.


The announcement was made by Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar. Rajinikanth was selected for his contribution to cinema as an actor, producer and screenwriter. The jury that selected Rajinikanth for the award were singers Asha Bhosle and Shankar Mahadevan, actors Mohanlal and Biswajeet and filmmaker Subhash Ghai.
Rajini began his career with the Tamil film Apoorva Raagangal in 1975. Some of his blockbuster films include Baasha, Thalapathi, Annamalai, Muthu, Sivaji The Boss, Chandramukhi and Enthiran. His latest film Darbar, an action thriller was released in 2020. Rajini also received Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awards for his excellent work in the field of cinema.
He will be seen in an action drama film titled Annatthe produced by Sun Pictures which will feature Meena, Khushboo, Keerthy Suresh, Nayanthara and Prakash Raj.
