United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has disclosed that the population of the world has touched the 8 billion mark and that it’s a milestone to celebrate.
According to the United Nations, the growth in the population on this planet is due to human development, improvements in public health, nutrition, personal hygiene and medicine. Higher fertility rates have also contributed to the population growth. Way back in 1950, the world population was 2.5 billion. It has grown to be more than three times higher today.
There are concerns that a population of 8 billion humans is too many for planet Earth and also over consumption of resources by the richer people. It is predicted that the population will grow to about 8.5 billion in 2030, 9.7 billion in 2050 and peak at around 10.4 billion in the 2080’s.
Blazers are one of the biggest fashion staples this winter 2022. Who would have thought the black hip length blazers that were meant for office wear and big meetings will see such a transition. While black was a cult favorite, other subdued colors were soon to follow and in the last few seasons we saw how green, maroon and other bold colors became a part of the blazer family with ease.
Blazers have come a long way and the off age blazers that rule the wardrobe have no limitations w.r.t to colors, length, style, silhouette or any other. Latest trend forecast suggests blazers to be one of the most versatile layers that can transform an ordinary ensemble to super stylish and chic.
As Bostreet announces its fall winter collection including a fleet of unique blazers; Mitali Joshi, Creative Lead, BoStreet shares her favorites and gives away some handy styling tips.
Crop Tailored Jacket:
Layer a cropped jacket while crop tops and bralettes are still in vogue. This added layer teamed with a high rise pant is enough to take your casual outfit a notch higher and classy. Suck jackets are quite multifaceted and have room for styling it in many different ways.
Mitali suggests a beautiful lilac jacket will instantly give your morning that autumn-like feel. Lilac is also the ‘it’ color of 2022, making this jacket a wardrobe essential. Style it with a high rise cream pant and lilac pumps to go and you are ready to rock the world.
The checks trend vanished and returned back in almost no time. Like it never went out of style. Checkered blazers are perfect for both day meetings and formal dinners. Who knew longline jackets would return as a trend and with such panache. Club the two trends and Voila! There is no going wrong here if you style it perfectly.
Pair it with a bralette and skinny pants or layer it over a mini dress. Either way it will make your ensemble look extremely stylish in its own unique way.
With flexi and comfy styling taking over, oversized double breasted blazers are one of the most significant trends we have noticed. Unlike the classic double breasted jackets these are tailored in elongated proportions, mixed textures, playful patterns and bold colors. A perfect layer to make one feel bright and confident on gloomy winter days.
Mitali suggests a bold green blazer from BoStreets recent collection to bring out your bold confident style. Team it with a neutral coloured turtle neck dress for a perfect evening outfit. Complete the look with knee high boots and some gold jewelry.

It’s a tale of two dismissals during the ICC T20 World Cup Down Under. And they were off the field. No tears shed. No one probably cares enough to discuss it beyond the day’s news box item or television offbeat story. No review for these incidents too! As a crusader for justice, they continue to rankle, well after the Indian cricket team crashed out of the semi-finals to England. Because I doubt if the punishment fits the ‘crime’.
Here’s the drift.
An outsourced hotel employee filmed star batsman Virat Kohli’s hotel room and posted the video on the social media, which went viral. A justifiably upset Virat took exception to this flagrant violation of his privacy. The former Indian skipper’s post gave the incident more traction. It even made it to advertising billboards. The outcry led to the sacking of the hotel staff. I do not hold a brief for this action. The man was most definitely out of line. It was an egregious violation of privacy of any guest, let alone a celebrity. There may have also been security concerns.
(Pic Courtesy: AMUL)
A few questions crossed my mind. If there was any mala fide intention on his part, would the hotel employee have publicised it online? Was the staff given a hearing before he was “removed” from the hotel account? During the ongoing pandemic when jobs are hard to come by or retain, who will suffer – just the employee or also his family? Would his family lose their medical insurance? Would there be an elderly family member who may be hit? Will the tainted man be able to get another job in the same industry?
One may contend that this is not the complainant’s concern. And that the man ought to have thought about the possible repercussions before committing that breach. But I suspect it was a thoughtless, and in hindsight, a costly act on the spur of the moment. From what I have heard of Virat, while he is a no-nonsense professional, he is also known to be compassionate and sensitive. In a quiet moment, I hope, with his equally kind wife Anushka by his side, Virat feels like reaching out to the Hotel to re-hire the sacked bloke. Organisations focus on damage control. Let errant individuals also have a second chance. Not a ‘free hit’ in that sense but just a warning.
The other footage that still haunts me is of a boy, ostensibly a fan of Indian Captain Rohit Sharma, trespassing into the ground during the Indian Vs Zimbabwe match. If news reports are true, he has been slapped with an exemplary fine of 6.5 lakh rupees. That seems like a Shylockian pound of flesh for a relatively minor transgression.
The lad was unarmed and was carrying an Indian flag. Fans can be over-enthusiastic. That’s what makes them fans, as opposed to mere followers of the game! On international television, he was seen being tackled to the ground by security personnel. That would have been embarrassing and a reprimand in itself. I’m not sure of his age but he did look like a possible minor and would in all probability be covered by a juvenile statute. Is a fine of that extent prescribed under the law? Or was it an arbitrary imposition? Would the delay caused due to his intrusion have led to a few ‘extras’ – commercial advertisements during that short period? In that case, why can’t the organisers make good the security breach, which caused the intrusion in the first place?
We may have lost the T20 World Cup but Team India can win hearts by appealing for clemency for the two individuals, who come across as fans, not fanatics. Review, please.

Nalini Sriharan and five others who were convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case will be freed after spending 33 years in a prison following an order from the Supreme Court on Friday.
Nalini’s brother said that she is happy and grateful to the Supreme Court for passing the release order. The Supreme Court passed the order on humanitarian grounds as they had already spent 33 years in prison.
Originally Nalini was sentenced to death for her role in the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi by a suicide bomber in 1991 during an election rally in Srip[rerumbudur in Tamil Nadu. The sentence was later reduced to life sentence by the Supreme Court.
Nalini’s first priority is to reunite with her family. The Congress however criticised the decision of the court to free the killers of Rajiv Gandhi and said that it was unacceptable.
