Nick Jonas falls off stage while performing at concert

Nick Jonas is currently on a tour across the United States with his brothers Kevin Jonas and Joe Jonas. The Jonas Brothers have been entertaining people with their music. Nick Jonas during one of the concerts fell off stage. This video went viral but Nick however regained his composure quickly and was back on stage. The video shows his two brothers looking at him with concern but are relieved to find that Nick is fine.

His wife Priyanka Chopra wished him good luck on his tour and shared pictures of Nick and said that both she and daughter Malti are lucky to have him in their lives
.Nick Jonas too shared pictures with his wife and daughter and in one picture, Malti can be seen sitting on a stool near the drum set with drumsticks in her hand.

Pragg advances into semi finals of the FIDE World Cup Chess tournament

While Indian Grandmasters Gukesh, Vidit Gujarathi and Arjun Erigaisi bowed out of the FIDE World Cup Chess tournament, Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa advanced to the semi finals.

Gukesh lost to Magnus Carlsen and Vidit Gujarathi lost to Abasov of Azerbaijan. Pragg defeated India’s Arjun Erigaisi to reach the semifinals. At the age of 18, he became the first Indian since Viswanathan Anand to reach the semifinals of the FIDE World Cup.
After a day of rest, Pragg will play USA’s Fabiano Caruana while Magnus Carlsen will take on Nijat Abasov from Azerbaijan.
Magnus has officially declined to play in the Candidates tournament to be held in Toronto from April 2 to 25 in 2024 while Pragg, Caruana and Abasov are set to fill the three qualifying spots available from this competition.

Magnus Carlsen not to take part in the Candidates Tournament in 2024

Magnus Carlsen has confirmed that he will not be playing at the Candidates 2024. He made this statement after he defeated D Gukesh in the quarterfinals of the FIDE World Cup 2023 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Carlsen stated that ”Under the current format, there is no chance. I think everybody should operate under the assumption that I will not play at the Candidates and that everybody else who’s in the semifinals is qualified for the Candidates.”
Meanwhile the winner of the game between Praggnanandhaa and Arjun Erigaisi will be confirmed to play at the Candidates in 2024. Already, the world championship challenger Ian Nepomniactchi has qualified. Azerbaijan’s Nijat Abasov who defeated India’s Vidit Gujrathi in the quarterfinals has earned a spot in the Candidates.

Piot dies during flight forcing emergency landing

A pilot Captain Ivan Andaur belonging to LATAM Airlines Group, died after he collapsed in the bathroom of a commercial flight from Miami to Chile. The plane was carrying 271 passengers and had an emergency landing that was carried out by the co-pilot.

Captain Ivan Andaur began feeling unwell about three hours after the flight took off and was given emergency treatment by the crew. However, they could not succeed in saving him and he passed away.
The plane had an emergency landing in Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport and medical experts rushed to check on the pilot but found him dead. Captain Andaur was said to be a veteran pilot, 56 years old and had 25 years of experience.
The flight later left Panama City and proceeded to Chile.

Surekha Yadav is the first woman train driver in India

Surekha Yadav entered the male bastion of train drivers. She joined the Indian Railways as a first lady loco pilot. She was selected by the Railway Recruitment Board, Mumbai in 1987 and after rigorous training, she became a regular assistant driver in 1989.

Surekha first piloted goods trains and became a full-fledged goods train driver in 1998. Later in 2010, she became a train driver on the Western Ghats railway line. She drove an all women crew train from Mumbai to Lucknow in the year 2021 and has become the first woman to operate the semi-high-speed ”Vande Bharat Express” this year.
On seeing Surekha, many women were inspired to become train drivers and by 2011, 50 women locomotive drivers were inspired to join the ranks of suburban and goods train operators.
Surekha is the recipient of many awards and honours.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge skips Red Fort event

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was absent at the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort. He stated that he had some eye problems and therefore he could not attend the event.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the event of its 77th Independence Day yesterday. Mallikarjun Kharge, however, hoisted the flag at the Congress office in Delhi, for the first time as party president. During his speech, he attacked the government which is unusual as the Congress party has traditionally avoided any attack on Independence Day.
PM Modi in his 10th Independence Day speech, attacked opposition parties especially the Congress and stated that the country should be freed from the three evils of corruption, nepotism and appeasement.

President Droupadi Murmu to address the country on the eve of Independence Day

President Droupadi Murmu will address the nation today on the eve of the 77th Independence Day. Her address will be broadcast throughout the nation on Akashvani and telecast on all Doordarshan channels both in Hindi and in English.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unfurl the national flag at the Red Fort tomorrow and later deliver his address from there. Around 1800 people from different vocations have been invited as ”Special Guests” for the celebrations.
These guests include 400 sarpanches from villages, 250 members of farmers producer organisations scheme, 50 participants from each of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Schemes and other schemes, 50 primary school teachers, nurses and fishermen etc.
The government has installed selfie points in 12 different locations dedicated to the different government schemes.

TN Chief Minister says that efforts are being made to scrap NEET

Since the introduction of NEET, (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) many students in Tamil Nadu have been committing suicide. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin has appealed to students to face life with self confidence and not to harbour any suicidal ideas after a medical aspirant ended his life.

He stated that when political change takes place, NEET barriers will come crashing down. He offered condolences to student Jagatheeswaran and his father Selvasekhar who allegedly died by suicide. He said that these deaths should be the last on the NEET issue.
A number of NEET related suicides have been reported in the state in the past few years. The CM also said that the state government is working on how to remove the hurdle. The TN Assembly has passed resolutions demanding NEET exemption for Tamil Nadu which has been returned by Governor Ravi. The government has sent the second resolution to the President for assent.

Artificial Intelligence has shaken the Vatican to a point of action after Pope Francis became a subject of a deepfake image. The Pope has released the theme for World Peace Day in 2024 which will focus on Artificial Intelligence and Peace.

Pope Francis is happy with the advancement of Artificial Intelligence in the fields of politics, economy and human activity and social life but is concerned about the harm it can cause and has cautioned that it should be deployed responsibly and used ethically.
The Pope himself was the subject of an AI created deepfake image earlier this year. The image that went viral shows the Pope in a white puffer jacket from Spanish designer brand Balenciaga.
Pablo Xavier, the man who created the image said that he was high on drugs at the time he created it and thought it was funny to see the Pope in the jacket.

Fuel outlet run by women convicts opens in Chennai

In a first of its kind, a petrol retail outlet will be fully run and managed by 30 women convicts who are still serving their prison sentence in Chennai. This fuel outlet was inaugurated this morning by Tamil Nadu Minister for Law and Prisons S Regupathy.

This fuel station is named as Freedom Filling Station and is located on Ambattur Road at Puzhal abutting the Special Prison for Women. This measure will help to reform and rehabilitate women convicts.
The 30 women who are employed in this outlet will get a monthly salary of Rs 6,000. It is an excellent opportunity for the women to learn new skills and gain work experience. The money that they earn can be used either to support their families or to save for their future.
Amaraesh Pujari, DGP in charge of Prisons and Correctional Services said that this initiative will help the convicts to gain an exposure to society and reduce isolation as well.

Imran Khan meets wife in jail

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and the now imprisoned Imran Khan, met his third wife Bushra Bibi at the high security Attock jail on Thursday for the first time since his arrest in a corruption case.

Lawyer Naseem Haider Panjutha stated that this meeting lasted for about 30 minutes. Though Imran Khan is fine, the 70 year old has been kept in Class C. Bushra Bibi is a spiritual healer and is devoted to Sufism, a form of Islamic mysticism. She was given permission to meet her husband by the Islamabad High Court.
Imran Khan has told his lawyers to get him removed from the  Attock jail where he is currently imprisoned in a small isolated cell infested with flies and insects.His party has filed a petition before the Islamabad High Court for Imran’s transfer to Adiala jail in Rawalpindi.
Imran Khan has been barred from politics for five years and cannot contest in the upcoming election. However, he has denied the charges framed against him.
