Industrialist Mukesh Ambani gets death threats

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, received a death threat on the 27th of October. A person  named Shadab Khan sent him an email claiming that if he did not give him Rs 20 crore, he would kill him.

The police have registered a complaint after security officials at Ambani’s residence in Mumbai informed them of the death threat. A case was registered against an unknown person under sections 387 and 506 (2) of IPC and they have initiated their investigations.
This is not the first time that Mukesh Ambani has received threats. Last year, Mumbai Police arrested a man from Bihar for making anonymous threatening calls to target Ambani and his family.
In 2021, an explosives-laden SUV was found near his residence and a businessman who was in possession of the SUV was found dead last year in a creek in Thane.

President Murmu visits Chennai

President Draupadi Murmu arrived in Chennai on Thursday evening by a special Indian Air Force flight from Bengaluru. She was received at the airport by Governor R. N. Ravi, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Chennai Mayor Priya and other officials.

 She  participated as the Chief Guest in the 8th convocation function of the Indian Maritime University run by the Central Government at Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) on Friday morning and awarded gold medals to the meritorious students of the University.
She was put up in Raj Bhavan where she met visitors after her arrival yesterday. She left for Delhi from the old airport at a little past noon today.
Tight security arrangements were made in the city in view of the President’s visit.

TN CM urges President to give assent to TN’s Anti-NEET Bill

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin handed over a letter to President Draupadi Murmu asking her to give assent to the State’s anti-NEET bill when he met her at the airport yesterday.

The Tamil Nadu Admission to Under Graduate Medical Degree Courses Bill, 2021 passed in September 2021 was returned by Governor RN Ravi later that year.
The bill was reintroduced and adopted by the Assembly in February 2022 and sent to the Governor again for forwarding the same to get Presidential assent.
However, till date, assent to the Bill has not been provided. Due to this inordinate delay, many deserving candidates could not get medical admissions as they could not afford costly coaching facilities.Moreover, many lives were lost to suicides every year.
The CM therefore requested the President for her immediate intervention and to give assent to the Bill at the earliest.

ISRO Chairman writes autobiography

ISRO Chairman, S.Somanath has written his autobiography in Malayalam titled Nilavu Kudicha Simhangal, This book will be available sometime in November.

He had very humble beginnings and he tells it all in the autobiography which he hopes will inspire the talented and yet not so confident.
This book focuses on hard work and perseverance in the face of difficulties. It is being published by Kerala based Lipi Publications. The book narrates his eventful journey from being an impoverished village youth into becoming the chairman of ISRO and Somanath prefers to call it as an inspirational story rather than an autobiography.
It was the historic success of Chandrayaan-3 that made him come out with this book. He feels that it is very important for people to make use of the right opportunities in life.
The book is in Malayalam as he felt comfortable writing it in his mother tongue.

Police constable saves snake by giving it CPR

A police constable in Madhya Pradesh saved the life of a snake by giving it CPR after it became immobile when it consumed water laced with pesticide. The snake regained consciousness and was saved.

A video of this is being circulated in social media and many netizens have praised the constable for his bravery. The constable named Atul Sharma is a ”self taught snake rescuer” who has saved around 500 snakes in the past 15 years. He said that he closely watches Discovery Channel and learned how to save snakes.
The viral video from Narmadapuram in Madhya Pradesh shows the snake entering a pipeline in a residential colony and as the residents could not remove the snake, they poured water laced with pesticides down the pipe and then called the police. Constable Atul Sharma swung into action and caught the snake and saved its life after blowing into its mouth. The crowd cheered on seeing the snake moving after that.

Former India spinner Bishen Singh Bedi passes away at 77

Bishen Singh Bedi, former India captain and spinner passed away on Monday at the age of 77. He was said to be ailing for the past two years and had undergone many medical procedures including a knee surgery about a month ago.

He is survived by his wife Anju,  daughter Neha and son Angad.
Bedi played in 67 tests in a 12 year career spanning between 1967 and 1979 and was one of India’s most celebrated cricketers.He won the Padma Shri award in 1970.
He made his debut against Australia in 1969-1970 and finished the series with a huge haul of 23 wickets.  His total haul of wickets in Test cricket  is 266 and 7 wickets in One Day Internationals.. He is considered to be one of the greatest spinners of all time.
The BCCI is mourning the loss of Bishen Singh Bedi and posted its condolence message on social media.

Dwayne Johnson asks Paris Museum to update his wax statue

A wax statue of former wrestler and American actor Dwayne Johnson known as ”The Rock” was recently unveiled at the Grevin Museum in Paris, France, The actor is not too impressed with the wax replica and has asked the museum to make improvements on the statue, especially his skin colour.

Many people found the statue to be too light skinned and was unlike the actor. The Museum has agreed to do the modifications and send pictures to Dwayne Johnson once it is done. They are waiting for him to visit Paris and the Grevin Wax Museum and celebrate with a cup of champagne.
Sculptor Stephane Barret was excited to work on the statue of Dwayne Johnson and managed to get the build and height right but could not get his skin tone and his expression right as the sample photo chosen had an expression that was difficult to achieve.

Indian -origin diplomat appointed as US Ambassador to Indonesia

Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir, an Indian-origin diplomat has been appointed as US Ambassador to Indonesia by President Joe Biden. She served the State Department for around 30 years and is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. She recently served as the Executive Secretary of the Department of State.

Kamala is a Harvard graduate and an M.S. from the National War College. Earlier, she served as an ambassador to Malaysia from 2017 to 2021.
She joined the Foreign Service in 1991 and served as Director of the Office of Maritime Southeast Asian Affairs, which included responsibility for US relations with Indonesia.
She also served in Northern Ireland, China, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
She grew up in Westport, Connecticut and said that she was always interested to pursue an international career because of her parents.

CJI Chandrachud receives Award for Global Leadership from Harvard Law School

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud  received an Award for Global Leadership by his alma mater Harvard Law School. The CJI was present at the Harvard Law School and spoke about the initiatives he had taken at the Supreme Court after he became the Chief Justice of India.

Incidentally, the Harvard Law School is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its Graduate Law Program and CJI Chandrachud remembered his days at the University as an LLM student in 1982-83 and an SJD candidate from 1983-86.
The CJI emphasised the importance of interdisciplinary studies as law does not work in a vacuum. He stated that law students should be involved in clinical legal models and get actively involved in real-time cases in local areas.
He suggested that law schools should develop a mechanism to train students to handle stress and mental health. He also interacted with the students and faculty members of different departments at Harvard University.

AIMIM leader files complaint against Rahul Gandhi for naming his pet dog Noorie

Rahul Gandhi recently bought a pet dog for his mother Sonia Gandhi and named it Noorie. This name has not gone down well with AIMIM – All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leader Mohammad Farhan who said that the dog’s name hurt his religious sentiments.

According to him, the word ”Noorie” is specifically related to Islam and is also found in the Quran. He has filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi seeking to lodge an FIR against him under section 295 A of the IPC -hurting religious sentiments.
Farhan had got to know about the dog’s name from newspaper reports, Rahul Gandhi’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. It is reported that he advised Rahul to change the dog’s name but in vain.
The case is posted to November 8 to record the statement of Farhan.

Pet dog helps save teenager’s life

A pet dog named Alex saved the life of Gabriel, a teen who suffered a stroke by waking up his parents from sleep. This story shared online on Instagram has won the hearts of many people.

One early Saturday morning, Alex began jumping on Gabriel’s parents bed and pawing at them. They reluctantly woke up to take him outside but Alex did not want to go outside. He stopped in front of  the closed bedroom door of Gabriel, their 17 year old son.
Gabriel was having a stroke and when his dad checked on him, he realised that something was wrong and managed to rush him to the hospital on time. Gabriel is making good progress and the family is planning to award Alex with a little medal of honour on his collar.
The post has won numerous likes and comments. Many praised Alex and shared similar stories too.

Indian origin doctor in Bahrain fired due to his anti Palestine tweets

Dr. Sunil Rao is employed with the Royal Bahrain Hospital as a specialist in internal medicine. Recently he tweeted and posted on social media his support for Israel. His posts came at a time when around 3000 people were killed in Gaza in Israel’s retaliatory strike over a Hamas attack.

The hospital on seeing the posts on social media terminated Dr. Sunil Rao on the ground that his posts were offensive to society, that his ideology was personal and did not reflect the opinion of the hospital. The hospital said that there was a violation in their code of conduct and therefore terminated the doctor with immediate effect.
Dr. Rao issued an apology and acknowledged that his remarks were insensitive but stated that as a doctor, all lives mattered to him and that he respected the country, its people and religion as he has been living there for the past ten years.
