The Vrisa collection is available for Rs.15,000/- onwards and the Translate collection in the price range Rs.3,500/- to Rs.8,500/-, at Amethyst entrance next to Corporation Bank, Whites Road, Royapettah, Chennai.

[wzslider autoplay=”true” transition=”‘slide'” lightbox=”true”]

The collection will be available at Amethyst until, July 29th, 2015.

Vrisa, by Jaipur-based designers Rahul and Shikha, captures Uzbekistan’s role in the exchange of art, culture and textiles during the period. Suzanis, from the Persian suzan for needle, were traditionally decorative textiles made by brides, as part of their dowries in several Central Asian countries. Using these as their inspiration, the designers have created a range of clothing that fuse Indian tradition with international culture. The designer duo is known for their love of reviving old culture and art forms in their designs, adapting them for modern times, where ethnic charm meets international chic.

Translate is a concept clothing label from Hyderabad that works in fresh summer hues and beautiful weaves. The primary focus of Translate, is to revive the age-old traditional art of ikat and bring it to a larger audience. They focus on warp ikat, weft ikat and double ikat which are on the brink of extinction. Translate weaves only authentic handloom ikat, despite the market being flooded with power loom weaves. Theirs is a one of a kind attempt to reintroduce Pochampalli ikat weaves to suit chic urban, daily wear fashion.

A reading from UNSEASONAL RAIN by Anupa Mehta

0

Unseasonal Rain is a bouquet of extraordinary stories centered on the idea of loss in the lives of ordinary people. Each tale tunes into moments of rupture in a calibrated manner to record the daily destruction that is part and parcel of life. The fragility of a brittle love affair, the helplessness of unexpressed desire, the despair of not being able to hold up a sense of self in a foreign country – these narratives evoke a roller coaster of memories, conjuring up characters as vulnerable and flawed as any we might know. Through these nine stories, some of which bubble with the patois of Gujarati immigrants and their local counterparts, the turmoil that simmers under the surface of life and the strange, often absurd, desires of the heart are brought to the fore. Not only to surprise and delight, but also to reveal the inexplicable mysteries at the core of human experience.
