Manya Singh, who is the Miss India 2020 is the daughter of an autorickshaw driver. She hails from Uttar Pradesh. Her inspiring story of her struggles and hard work has gone viral. Manya revealed that she spent several nights without food and sleep. She could not attend school as she had to go to work. All her clothes she wore were donated by others. It was her mother who eventually pledged all the jewelry she had to pay for her college fees so that she could get a degree. It was with a great struggle that she managed to complete her education.

Manya ran away from home at the age of 14. She washed dishes in the evening and worked at a call centre at night. She even walked for hours to reach places to save on auto fare. The reason she took part in the Miss India pageant was to uplift her parents and younger brother. She says that she wanted to show the world that anything can be achieved if one is committed to oneself and to one’s dreams.

Manushi Chillar, Miss World, 2017, took to Instagram to congratulate Manya and to celebrate the proud moment. Manushi wrote “Glass ceilings to be shattered.”
