Stay for a day or two and taste the world at Conrad, the tallest luxury hotel across Southern India.

By Namita Gupta

Whether you’re planning a summer vacation weekend getaway or a staycation in your own city, RITZ recommends you spend two-days at Conrad Bengaluru that is known worldwide for its functional luxury. Soaring 24 stories above Bengaluru’s Central Business District, enter a world of understated luxury right in the heart of the city with magnificent views of Ulsoor Lake. Dine at the four restaurants – each more elegant than the other serving world cuisine and save yourself a trip across the globe. Friendly staff are always on hand to guide you through the entire smorgasbord of delectable flavours as you eat your heart out at some of their most sought after restaurants.

Caraway Kitchen

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at Caraway Kitchen an all-day diner with live kitchens. The world comes live on your platter every morning as you take a culinary journey spanning from Asia to Europe and America at Caraway Kitchen. Celebrate the magnificence of world cuisine at four live open kitchens travelling from Italy, India, Americas and East Asia with market-style food displays and fashionable interiors promising drama, authenticity and innovation. For those looking for healthy options, there are plenty of healthy juices, smoothies, granola bars, quinoa poha and multi-grain and ragi dosas and green peas idlis. Do try the crispy waffles and fluffy pancakes too when you’re here.

Mikusu

Mikusu is an exotic culinary blend of Japanese, Chinese and Thai cultures, paying homage with a luxuriously crafted ambiance and soulful experiences. Authentic and elegant dishes celebrate the culinary artistry of the East, while allowing the intricate flavours of each ingredient to take center stage. Each of the dishes are imbued with a strong sense of the locale, and paired with a curated range of exquisite sake and exotic Asian cocktails. The sushi and the sashimi are a delight, not just in presentation with a dramatic smoke emanating from the platter, but also in taste. The seaweed-wrapped rice rolls with crunchy carrots, pickled raddish, cucumber, raw fish and prawns were gobbled up in no time with a Prosecco to wash it all down with panache. We also liked the Sake Teriyaki, Grilled salmon with teriyaki glaze and Wasabi Prawns with Tobiko, delicious tempura prawns with flying fish roe and Kung Pao Chicken. Vegetarians will like the Yasai Gyoza, seasonal mélange vegetable pan fried dumplings and Thai Vegetables Green Curry with Steamed Jasmine Rice.

Indian Durbar

Time-honoured cooking methods, signature ingredients and the most authentic recipes create a true taste of Royal Kitchens across India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Accentuated by the gentle strains of traditional gold leafed, ‘jali’ work in a regal setting, Indian Durbar transported us to an era of old-world charm and nostalgia. The regional dishes feature exotic curries, tandoor specialties and aromatic side dishes paired with a specially chosen menu of world-class beverages. We tried the Maas Ke Sooley, an age old Rajasthani spiced lamb preparation from the royal kitchen of Rajputs, which was heavenly with Khamiri Roti. The Lehsooni Jheenga had large chunks of tiger prawns flavoured with fried garlic and yogurt cooked in a clay oven. But the winner was the Galouti Kebab, classic lamb kebabs served on ulte tawe ka paratha. Also, try the Nizami Murgh Korma, a traditional preparation by the Nizams of Awadh which is rich in flavours.

Tiamo

Tiamo is already a steady favourite with many which was evident from the number of diners flanked around the three sides of the pool celebrating some of the most loved Mediterranean Bistro Classics under open skies on our visit there. With balmy days and cool evenings, most days in Bengaluru equal al fresco. We found a table by the deck of the infinity pool with panoramic views of the breathtaking Ulsoor Lake and gave in to the robust flavours and simple ingredients of Mediterranean cuisine. It was sheer joie de vivre sipping on some Italian red wine and nibbling into some of the juiciest of prawns and scooping a generous dose of hummus, mint labneh, muhammara, marinated olives, fattoush with pita bread from the Mezze platter. My main course came in the form of Grilled sea bass in Grenoblaise, white wine, capers, kalamata and beans that might seem understated to some palates, but it’s perfectly likely that the delicate intrusion of its mild flavours will win over others, just like it won me over hands down. End your meal on a sweet note with a Tiramisu, made from traditional mascarpone cream and coffee cake or a Cannoli, a creamy ricotta and mascarpone filled pastry shells.

The Lobby Brew

The perfect setting for respite and refreshment, whether you’re starting your day with a double espresso or toasting over evening cocktails. Nestled in the lobby, their extensive beverage menu is complemented by tapas and finger foods that satiate every craving, any time of the day. The stylish and comfortable environment invites you to snack, sip, share and linger awhile.
