2061 arrested in Sabarimala violence

The Kerala Police in response to the mob violence that marked the opening of the Sabarimala temple for the monthly puja in the third week of October has arrested 2061 people and registered 452 cases.

The State wide detentions and round ups targeted Bharathiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh activists in 14 districts. The main charge against the suspects include attacking of police officers, violation of the Supreme Court order, attacking women pilgrims and journalists and breaking prohibitory orders. Meanwhile the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has convened a meeting regarding the temple affairs to be held on October 31st.
