Holy Father Pope Francis issued an Apostolic Letter entitled Patris Corde ( With a Father’s Heart) and proclaimed a “Year of Saint Joseph” from December 8th 2020 to December 8th 2021. This is to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the declaration of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church.

The Pope also decreed a plenary indulgence for the Year of Saint Joseph available to the faithful under the usual conditions for various acts of devotion. Saint Joseph is hailed as a model of fatherhood and a key intercessor. He is the foster father of Jesus whose feast is celebrated on the 19th of March every year as per the church calendar.

In keeping with this proclamation, a hoarding  has been put up at the entrance of Our Lady of Guidance Church at R. A. Puram  also known as Lazarus Church with a picture and prayer to the saint both in English and Tamizh. A beautiful picture of Saint Joseph has been kept inside the church in front of the altar. Prayer cards were distributed to the parishioners during the New Year Day services held at the parish. A music CD with a song in honour of Saint Joseph was released by Parish Priest Rev Fr Y. F. Bosco during the new year day service. The music has been composed by X. Paulraj, the Choir master of the Tamil choir of the parish and the lyrics are by J Albert who is also a parishioner.
