A French nun named Sister Andre died at the age of 118 in the southern city of Toulon. She is said to have been the world’s oldest nun. The city’s mayor Hubert Falco announced the news of her death on Twitter.

Sister Andre died in a nursing home in her sleep. She was born as Lucile Randon on February 11, 1904. Before she became a Catholic nun, she looked after children during the Second World War and later spent 28 years caring for orphans and elderly people at a hospital.
When she turned 118 last year, she received a handwritten birthday note from French President Emmanuel Macron. Sister Andre dedicated most of her life to religious service.
