The 23 year old rape victim from Unnao was set ablaze by five men including two of the accused as she was on her way to the court. She is currently battling for life in hospital with 90% burns. All the five men have been arrested. The woman was raped in December 2018 but the FIR was registered only in March. While she was on her way to the court at Rae Bareilly from her village in Unnao district, she was attacked and set ablaze.
She ran for a distance of almost a kilometer before eyewitnesses saw her and informed the police. The woman gave a statement of the spine chilling incident to the sub divisional magistrate Dayashankar Pathak. The National Commission for Women has sought a report from the police about the action they have taken. The issue was also taken up in the Rajya Sabha and the house was adjourned for half an hour amidst an uproar by the Opposition parties.
