The price of onions has touched Rs 140 per kg in markets around the country. A lot of exchanges took place in Parliament over the spiralling prices. Onion is considered to be a staple ingredient in every diet. Finance Minister Nirmal Sitharaman however is not concerned much  about the price rise as she comes from a family that doesn’t care much about onions and garlic.
She said that the reason for the increase is due to less production and that the government has taken several steps to check the rising prices which included a ban on exports, imposition of stock limit and import and transfer of onions from surplus to deficit areas.
