Tamil Nadu had sent a tableau to be staged at the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi. However, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had informed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin that the tableau of Tamil Nadu had not been selected and that selection was done according to the prescribed guidelines.
Stalin was shocked and saddened by this rejection and even sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in this matter. The tableaux of Tamil Nadu were featured in the Republic Day parade in 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

The proposals of tableaux received from various states are evaluated by an expert committee consisting of eminent persons in the field of art, culture, painting, architecture, music, choreography etc. It examines the proposals on the basis of theme, design and visual impact before making its recommendations.
As the tableau will not be staged in New Delhi, Chief Minister Stalin has stated that it will now be staged in the Republic Day celebrations to be held in Chennai.
