It was on this day, 27 years ago that Sushmita Sen was crowned Miss Universe
It was a proud moment for India when twenty seven years ago, 18 year old Sushmita Sen was crowned ‘Miss Universe’. The pageant was held in 1994 at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay, Philippines. It was during the same year that Aishwarya Rai was also crowned Miss World. Sushmita Sen took to social media to write, “India’s first ever victory at Miss Universe”!
She wrote, “To my Motherland INDIA! Happpyyyyy 27th anniversary of India’s first ever victory at #MissUniverse in Manila #Philippines. That early morning on 21st May 1994, not only changed an 18-yr-old’s life forever…it made history……Have you ever stared at the impossible and thanked God for giving you the opportunity to make it possible? I have.” The actor thanked her friends, fans and well wishers for their wishes and blessings.
