Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said that he will take a call to list the case relating to the ban on girls wearing hijab in government schools in Karnataka.
A batch of petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the judgement of the Karnataka High Court refusing to lift the ban on hijab in educational institutions in the state.

Earlier a two judge bench of the Supreme Court delivered a split verdict in October 2022.. Therefore the matter will be referred to a three judge bench. With examinations scheduled to begin on March 9 and girls wearing hijab not permitted to take the exams, the urgency in the matter has been brought to the notice of the apex court. It was brought to the notice of the court that some girls have even moved to private institutions because of the prohibition on wearing hijabs but they still have to take their exams in government institutions and if they are not permitted to write their exams, they will lose another year.
