Sunny Gavaskar turns 74

Former India cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar, also called ‘Sunny’ and ‘Little Master’ is one of the famous cricketers in the Indian team. He is celebrating his 74th birthday today.

Gavaskar made his debut in the Test series against the West Indies and set numerous batting records in his cricketing career. He was born and brought up in the city of Mumbai and was a part of India’s maiden World Cup winning squad of 1983.
He set the record for scoring the most centuries in Tests and scored more than 10,000 runs in red-ball cricket. He retired from the game with a record of 45 half-centuries and 34 centuries against his name. He was the first cricketer to reach the milestone of 10,000 runs in Test cricket in March 1987. He represented India in 125 Test matches. He is also the first fielder to have taken 108 catches in his Test career.
