A 5,000 metre walking race was held for girl students in Japan last weekend. In a horrible mix up, sanitiser was poured into cups at a drinks station for athletes. Japanese authorities are investigating into the mix-up that left one student ill.
The sanitiser was stored in an unlabelled plastic bottle along with bottles containing drinking water in a cardboard box. After drinking the sanitiser, one student vomited and collapsed. Two others who drank it spat it out and continued the race.
They were taken to hospital for treatment and are said to be recovering. The Governor of Yamanashi Kotaro Nagasaki said that there would be a third-party investigation held and offered an apology to the affected athlete and her family.
