Congress president Rahul Gandhi while addressing a Press Conference announced the parties ambitious  minimum income guarantee scheme or Nyuntham Aay  Yojna (Nyay). Under the scheme 20% of the poorest families in India who earn less than Rs 12000 per month would be given financial support of Rupees 6000 per month amounting to Rs 72,000/ per year. This scheme would benefit about 5 crore households and about 25 crore family members would benefit from the scheme.

Rahul said that the final assault on poverty has come and that he will wipe out poverty from the country. He said that the money would be directly transferred to bank accounts of a woman family member. Even though the scheme is historic in nature,  Opposition parties have criticized it as a bluff announcement.
