PM declares FIDE 44th Chess Olympiad open in Chennai on the 28th of July

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi declared the FIDE 44th Chess Olympiad open at the Jawaharlal Indoor Stadium on Thursday the 28th of July. He gave a strong message of encouragement for the players taking part in the tournament.


The Chess Olympiad is special as it is being held during India’s 75th year of Independence. It is being held at Mamallapuram which is 50 kms away from the city of Chennai. The PM praised the organizers for their outstanding arrangements within a short period of time. It is the Tamil Nadu government that is hosting the event with full support from the Centre.
The other important personalities who were present at the inauguration were Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Governor of Tamil Nadu R.N. Ravi and Union Ministers Anurag Thakur and L.Murugan.
