PM cancels visit to TN

Due to the surging number of Covid-19 cases in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cancelled his scheduled visit to Tamil Nadu today. He was to inaugurate the new medical colleges in the state and the new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil in Perumbakkam. He will instead do the inauguration by videoconferencing.


New colleges have been established in Virudhunagar, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Tirupur, Tiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram and Krishnagiri at a total cost of around 4,000 crore. Out of this amount, Rs 2,145 crore was provided by the Union government and the remaining amount was borne by the Tamil Nadu government. The colleges have a total capacity of 1,450 seats and are in line with the endeavour of the Prime Minister to provide affordable medical education and also to improve the health infrastructure in all parts of the country.
