Biden to appoint 2 Indian-Americans to his National Advisory Council

US President Joe Biden has decided to appoint two Indian -Americans Manu Asthana and Madhu Beriwal to his National Infrastructure Advisory Council. This Council advises the White House on how to reduce physical and cyber risks and improve security and resilience of the nation’s infrastructure sectors.


Asthana has vast experience in the energy industry, power generation operations, risk management etc. He is a member of the Electricity Subsector Coordinating Council and serves on the Board of Trustees of Texas Children’s Hospital. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia.
Madhu on the other hand is the founder of the Innovative Emergency Management Inc and is its CEO and president. It is said to be the largest woman-led homeland security and emergency management firm in the US.

Sonia Gandhi’s mother passes away

Sonia Gandhi’s mother Paola Maino passed away on Saturday. She was in her 90’s and was living in her home in Italy. The funeral took place on Tuesday. AICC spokesperson Jairam Ramesh broke the news of the death of Sonia’s mother on Twitter.


President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Modi and many senior politicians conveyed their condolences to Sonia and her family and prayed that God give them strength to bear the loss.
Sonia Gandhi left the country a few days ago along with her children Rahul and Priyanka to go for her annual medical check up and also to visit her ailing mother in her hometown of Italy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unfurl a new naval flag and will do away with the old one that features a prominent cross of Saint George, the national flag of England and a legacy from India’s colonial past.


The Prime Minister will reveal the new design on Friday in Kerala at the commissioning of the Vikrant which his office states to be a significant step for military self-reliance.
The government is seeking to wean the country off its dependency on foreign military purchases and to build a domestic defence hardware industry. India is a member of Quad along with the United States, Japan and Australia. The main aim is to provide a substantive counterweight to the rising military and economic power of China.

Celebrations for Ganesh Chaturthi begins today

For the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, celebrations for Ganesh Chaturthi were curbed. Hence, this year celebrations are expected to be on a bigger scale.


The 10 day festival began throughout the country today. The idols of Lord Ganesha, the god of prosperity and wisdom and a slayer of obstacles will be installed in homes of people. Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani has become the third richest person in the world according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. He has surpassed Louis Vuitton’s Bernard Arnault and is the first Asian to achieve this distinction.

Shashi Tharoor may run for Congress President

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is said to be exploring the possibility of running for the post of Congress President but is yet to take a final call in the matter.
He declined to comment if he will be making efforts to become President but in an article that he wrote for the Malayalam daily ‘Mathrubhumi’, he has called for a ”free and fair” election. He feels that the party as a whole needs to be revamped and the most urgent requirement is for the party to get its President.


According to him, whoever becomes President will have a dual responsibility of energising the Congress party workers as well as inspiring the voters.
The elections for Congress President will be held on October 17 and results will be declared on October 19. The notification for the election will be issued on September 22, filing of nomination will begin on September 24 and go on till the 30.

Rahul remains only choice for party chief says Salman Khurshid

Senior leader of the Congress party, Salman Khurshid said that Rahul Gandhi is the number one and only choice to take over as the party chief after the schedule for the election of the AICC president was announced.
He said that the party will make efforts to persuade Rahul to take over the Presidency after he returns from his overseas trip. The election for president will be held on October 17 and the results will be declared two days later.


Other party workers and leaders shared the views expressed by Salman Khurshid. The leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge also stated that Rahul was the best choice for the post as nobody else in the party has a pan-India appeal.
Rahul resigned as Congress president after the party suffered its second consecutive defeat in the 2019 parliamentary elections.Sonia Gandhi took over the reins as interim president.
