Man arrested for cheating bank using forged documents

A man from Delhi was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing Police for cheating a nationalised bank using forged documents to obtain crores of rupees.


The accused has been identified as Harjit Singh. It is reported that the complainant and the accused were brothers and directors of the accused company Libra Finance and Libra Leasing. In 1992, the accused company obtained a loan of Rs 80 lakhs by pledging five properties jointly owned by three brothers and their wives. The cash credit limit was enhanced from Rs 80 lakh to Rs 2 crore in 2005, to Rs 5.5 crore and then to Rs 10 crore in 2010.
It was detected that the signature on the loan documents were forged and the loan turned into an NPA -non performing asset in 2014. The bank initiated proceedings against the accused company and began to auction the three pledged properties. The accused has been arrested and taken into police custody. Investigations are going on to unearth the conspiracy.

Ambani family hosts event for their son’s fiancee Radhika

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries and his wife Nita hosted the arangetram ceremony of their would be daughter-in-law Radhika Merchant at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai. Radhika is engaged to Anant Ambani and is the daughter of industrialist Viren Merchant.


Radhika is the disciple of Guru Bhavana Thakar of Shree Nibha Arts. The entire Ambani family was present at the arangetram. Nita wore an orange silk saree with a floral print on the border. Many Bollywood celebrities like Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh and industrialists attended the event. Anil Ambani and his wife Tina Ambani also graced the event.
Earlier this week, Mukesh Ambani replaced Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani as Asia’s richest person. Ambani’s net worth has risen to $99.7 billion and is ranked as the eighth richest person in the world according to the Bloomberg Billionaire index.

Harry and Meghan attend Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Service

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan joined the royal family at the Platinum Jubilee service for Queen Elizabeth’s record breaking 70 years on the throne. It is their first public appearance in two years in Britain. The Queen received congratulatory messages on her record breaking reign from leaders all over the world.


There were cheers for Harry and Meghan from the crowd outside St. Paul’s Cathedral. Harry was dressed in a suit with military medals and Meghan wore an off-white dress with a matching hat. Around 2,000 people attended the service that ended with trumpet fanfares and the national anthem ”God Save the Queen.” However, the Queen pulled out of the service due to discomfort.
The 96 year old Queen is said to have watched the service on television and is said to have problems standing and walking due to which she had to cancel many engagements.
The queen’s heir, Prince Charles, took the salute from troops on horseback.

Karunanidhi’s 98th birth anniversary to be celebrated in Tamil Nadu

Today is the 98th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi. The ruling DMK party will be celebrating it in a grand manner in the state.
Karunanidhi’s son, Chief Minister MK Stalin will lead the celebrations by paying floral tributes to the 16 feet bronze statue of his late father. The statue is installed in the multi-super speciality government hospital at Omandurar Government Estate. This life size statue was unveiled by Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu on May 28.


All State ministers, MPs, legislators and government officials will take part in the event at Omandurar Government Estate. There will be ‘Dravidian model’ workshops conducted throughout the state to infuse Dravidian values in the youngsters. These workshops will also identify anti-national forces trying to disrupt peace and harmony in the state.

Gujarat woman to marry herself on June 11

Kshama Bindu is a 24 year old woman from Vadodara in Gujarat. She has introduced the word Sologamy to India. She is said to be so fond of herself that she will be getting married to herself on June 11. She has ordered a lehenga for the wedding, printed cards and even distributed them.

Amber Heard ordered to pay $15 million in defamation case

The verdict has been pronounced in the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard case. Amber has been held guilty of defamation and has been ordered to pay $15 million in damages. Johnny Depp was ordered to pay $2 million in Amber’s countersuit.


Both Amber and Johnny Depp accused each other of abuse in the defamation trial. Johnny sued ex-wife Amber for $50 million on the ground that she defamed him by falsely accusing him of domestic abuse. Amber filed a countersuit claiming $100 million saying he smeared her by calling her a liar.
After a long trial, the verdict was pronounced,and crowds cheered for Johnny Depp outside the courthouse. Johnny himself was not present when the verdict was pronounced as he was on work in the UK. He reacted to the verdict saying that the jury gave him his life back.

Salman Rushdie to be honoured at Queens birthday

Salman Rushdie, the Mumbai born author of the novel ‘Midnight’s Children’ will be honored along with 40 others in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Rushdie, 74 years of age, has been named a Companion of Honour, an exclusive club with membership limited to 65 people at any given time for services to literature.


Rushdie is thrilled and said that it is an honour to be included in such an illustrious company.
The Companion of Honour is given to those who have made a major contribution in the field of arts, science, medicine or government over a period of time. Some people who received this honour in the past include former British Prime Ministers Winston Churchill and John Major and renowned physicist Stephen Hawking.
The honours list is annually published to coincide with the Queen’s official birthday celebrations in June.

Singer KK passes away in Kolkata

Singer KK was performing at an event in Kolkata when he became ill. He was rushed to CMRI hospital and was declared dead.


KK – Krishnakumar Kunnath was 53 years old. He performed back to back shows in Kolkata for the past two days. He performed in the iconic Nazrul Mancha auditorium till 8.30 p.m. when he suddenly fell ill and returned to his hotel. He collapsed in the hotel and was rushed to hospital and declared dead. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. His family has reached the hospital in Kolkata where his mortal remains are kept. A post mortem to ascertain the exact cause of his death is likely to take place today after getting the consent of his family.
Many celebrities expressed their shock and grief on Twitter and called it a black year in Indian music. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared his heartfelt condolences on Twitter.

Australia’s new Cabinet has 10 women

Australia’s new Cabinet has a record number of women that includes religious minorities and indigenous aboriginals. A total number of 10 women have been included in the 23 member cabinet. The previous Liberal- National coalition government led by Scott Morrison had 7 women.


The Ministry headed by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was sworn into office this morning at a ceremony in the national capital, Canberra. The Deputy Prime Minister is Richard Marles and has been assigned the defense portfolio.
Albanese said that Labor will govern in its own right claiming 77 seats in the 151 seat lower house and it can form a majority government without the support of climate focused independents and Greens, It will also have to negotiate with 16 crossbenchers to pass legislation and will need additional support for legislation in the Parliament’s upper house.

According to WHO, monkeypox not likely to turn into pandemic

The World Health Organization said that it was not concerned for now that the spread of monkeypox beyond the African countries could turn into a global pandemic.
The UN health agency has voiced concern over this unusual situation but reiterated that there was no reason to panic as the virus spreads only through close contact and does not cause severe disease. However, it was important to take necessary steps to stop the spread of the virus.


Monkeypox is said to be related to smallpox which killed millions of people around the world every year before it was eradicated in 1980. It is said to be less severe than smallpox and most people recover within 3 to 4 weeks. Its initial symptoms include high fever, swollen lymph nodes and a blistery chickenpox like rash. It is unclear if it is airborne or transmitted through droplets.

Valedictory function held for summer camps of play school

CK Wonder Kidz, a play school and day care centre located in Mylapore, held three summer camps from April 4 to May 24. These camps were both innovative and fun filled. Children who attended the camp were taught Art and Craft, Yoga, Brain gym and Rhythmic dance.The school held a valedictory function of these camps on the 28 of May and the children who participated were given certificates.

Gayatri, mother of Amaira, who attended the camp said ”great efforts were put in by the teachers, they not only encouraged my daughter but also brought out her latent talents.”

Nepalese private airlines plane crashes

A Nepalese twin engine aircraft with 22 people on board crashed on Sunday. Four Indians were on board the aircraft. It crashed in Kowang village of Mustang district after it went missing in the mountainous district on Sunday morning.


Rescue troops have physically located the plane at the crash site. On Sunday morning, the aircraft that was flying from Pokhara to Jomsom at 9.55 a.m. lost contact after reaching the Lete area of Mustang. According to the police officials, the aircraft is suspected to have crashed in the ”Titi” area of Lete in Mustang district. Locals from Titi informed the police that they heard an unusual sound like a bang.
The Nepal Home Ministry had deployed two private helicopters to search for the missing aircraft.

P. Chidambaram to file his nomination today for upcoming Rajya Sabha polls

Congress leader P.Chidambaram will file his nomination to contest in the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls today. The polls are scheduled to be held on the 10th of June. He is filing his nomination as the Congress candidate from Tamil Nadu for the elections to the Upper House of Parliament.


The other party leaders who have been nominated include Rajeev Shukla, Randeep Surjewala, Ajay Maken, Jairam Ramesh, Pramod Tiwari, Imran Pratapgarhi and a lone woman candidate Ranjeet Ranjan who will be contesting from Chattisgarh.
