Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, visited vegetable shops in South Mada Street in Mylapore area in Chennai. Vegetable vendors were pleasantly surprised to see the VIP in their area. She purchased keerai and some vegetables before leaving for New Delhi on Saturday.
The Minister interacted with the vendors and local residents and posed for selfies during her visit to the market. It was BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan who accompanied the Finance Minister. Initially, the vendors were scared as security personnel with guns had accompanied the Minister. Later when they got to know who she was, they even invited her to have a cup of coffee at a nearby hotel but due to paucity of time, she could not oblige the vendors. She stated that she was familiar with the Mylapore area as she spent many summers during her childhood days.
