Modi government appointed 8 women as Governors

The Modi government has appointed the maximum number of women as governors since coming to power in 2014. According to sources, it has appointed 8 women to the post so far.
Mridula Sinha, Draupadi Murmu, Najma Heptullah, Anandiben Patel, Baby Rani Maurya, Anusuiya Uikey, Tamilisai Soundarajan and Kiran Bedi have been appointed as Governors or Lieutenant Governors since 2014.


The Manmohan Singh led UP government stands second with 6 women appointments . Among the 8 women appointed governors under the Modi government, 5 of them are from the SC, ST and OBC members.
There has been a major Cabinet reshuffle and President Ram Nath Kovind has approved the appointment of 8 governors. Thaawarchand Gehlot has been appointed as the new Governor of Karnataka, Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel has been named the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Hari Babu Kambhampati is the new Governor of Mizoram while Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar is the new Governor of Himachal Pradesh..Sreedharan Pillai has been transferred and appointed Governor of Goa, Bandaru Dattatraya has been transferred and appointed as the Governor of Haryana, Satyadev Narayan Arya has been transferred and appointed Governor of Tripura while Ramesh Bais has been transferred and appointed Governor of Jharkhand.
