The 2021 Brit Award winners have been announced and the first female band Little Mix made history by winning an award. While picking up the award, Jade Thirlwall, Leigh Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards thanked their former bandmate Jesy Nelson before speaking about how proud they are to have reached their tenth anniversary as a group. The trio then dedicated their award to all the incredible female bands like the Spice Girls, Sugababes and Girls Aloud who missed out the award in the past.

Leigh Anne stated that “It’s not easy being a female in the UK pop industry. We’ve seen the white male dominance, misogyny, sexism and lack of diversity.”
Some of the other award winners include J Hus who won the Male Solo Artist, Dua Lipa who won the Female Solo Artist. Billie Eilish and The Weeknd won awards in the International Categories and HAIM was named the Best International Group. Taylor Swift picked up the Global Icon award and is the first female artist to win the award.
The event was hosted by actor Jack Whitehall and it was held at London’s O2 Arena for the fourth year in a row. There were live performances by Dua Lipa, Elton John, Years and Years and Coldplay.
