The Swearing In Ceremony is to take place amidst a lockdown in the state

While Kerala is under a lockdown till the 23rd, four districts including Thiruvananthapuram is currently under a triple lockdown due to the surge in cases. The official second term of the LDF government under Shri Pinarayi Vijayan will begin with the swearing in ceremony to be held on May 20th 2021 at the Central Stadium at Thiruvananthapuram.  “Last time the swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by 40,000 people. But this time, because of the COVID-19, the invitees have been restricted to 500, including 140 MLAs, 20 MPs, with COVID-19 protocols in place,” said Pinarayi Vijayan.

The Kerala Chapter of the Indian Medical Association had suggested having a virtual swearing in ceremony taking into consideration the present situation of the pandemic and many others have come out in support of this. Though the swearing in ceremony has been scheduled with 500 guests, the Chief Minister has assured that strict protocols will be maintained. “The Central Stadium has a seating capacity of 1,000 (people) observing the Covid protocols. However, the number of participants shall be limited to 500,” said a Government order.
