International Women’s Day being celebrated today

Each year, International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th of March. This day highlights the contributions made by women in history and to contemporary society. This year, the theme is- Embrace Equity and the focus is on gender equity.


The first National Women’s Day was observed in the United States on February 28, 1909, which the Socialist Party of America dedicated in honour of the 1908 garment workers strike in New York, where the women protested against the harsh working conditions.
On March 8th in 1975, the United Nations celebrated its first official International Women’s Day. In December 1977, the General Assembly adopted a resolution that proclaimed a United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace. March 8th is now an official UN holiday for women’s rights and world peace.
People all over the globe celebrate this day by making the women in their lives feel loved and special.
