ISRO Chief S Somanath has confirmed that NASA is working on sending an Indian astronaut to the International Space Station. This idea was first mooted during high-level discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden.

Currently, NASA is using the Elon Musk led SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft to send astronauts to the International Space Station.
This collaboration marks a milestone in the Indo-US space relations. There will be a comprehensive training of Indian astronauts at US facilities. This training will provide exposure and experience to enhance India’s capabilities in manned space missions.
By the end of 2024, the Indian astronaut will be selected by ISRO and he will get ready to embark on the mission to the ISS.
