First public electric bus flagged off

Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami flagged off an electric air conditioned bus. Operated by the Metropolitan Transport Corporation, the bus will ply between Central Railway Station and Thiruvanmiyur via Mylapore and Adyar. Manufactured by Ashok Leyland, the bus is equipped with automatic doors and GPS.

It will make two trips each in the morning and evening on a trial basis with a minimum fare if RS 11/ and a maximum fare of RS 25/. It will be operated on a battery swap basis and can run a maximum of 40 kms on a fully charged battery. The introduction of the electric bus is to reduce the level of pollution. These buses will ply on a trial basis and after getting feedback from the public, more buses will be introduced.
