Amma Patrol vehicles launched

A batch of 40 patrol vehicles popularly called Amma Patrol vehicles have been launched by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. These vehicles will provide ready response at a crime scene and will help to prevent violence against women and children. More than 40 Toyota Crysta 2.4 G vehicles were purchased at a cost of Rs 6.8 crores under the Nirbhaya Fund.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the project aims to create a safe and secure environment for women. It will enable them to pursue all opportunities without any threat of gender based violence and harassment. Chennai being the major hub for software industries, the percentage of working women is increasing by the day and their safety and security is a major cause for concern. Smart poles with emergency call boxes and public announcement systems will be installed in 617 locations. Besides this, Pan- tilt zoom and box cameras will be installed in women’s colleges, markets, bus terminuses and places of worship.
