The IMD has stated that Chennai will finally get some respite from the heavy rain that battered the city. Light to moderate rainfall has been predicted for the next two days. However, this break may not last long as a fresh low pressure area is likely to form over south Andaman sea on Saturday. It is likely to move west northwestward or move up in latitude towards Andhra Pradesh.

S. Balachandran, deputy director general of IMD said that for the next 48 hours, there will be cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall in the city and its suburbs.
Tamil Nadu has recorded 40 cms rainfall during this northeast monsoon season against the normal rainfall of 26 cms, while Chennai recorded 74 cms against a normal of 42 cms.
