All Women Bench to hear matters in Supreme Court

An All Women Bench has been constituted in the Supreme Court to hear transfer petitions involving matrimonial disputes and bail matters. The bench has been constituted by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and comprises Justices Hima Kohli and Bela M Trivedi.


This is the third occasion in the history of the Supreme Court that an all women bench has been constituted. It has 32 matters listed before it including 10 transfer petitions and 10 bail matters.
Currently, there are 3 women judges in the Supreme Court. Justices Hima Kohli, Bela Trivedi and BV Nagarathna. Justice Nagarathna is set to become the first woman Chief Justice in 2027.
