US astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir have achieved the distinction of becoming the first female pair to carry out a spacewalk yesterday. It was supposed to happen earlier this year in March but it was aborted due to a spacesuit fiasco.
The agency had only one medium sized spacesuit and it was completed with a male and female astronaut at a later date. They began their mission by making standard safety checks on their suits and tethers before making their way to the repair site. NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine  said that his aim was to make space available to all people. Christina is an electrical engineer while Jessica has a doctorate in marine biology. NASA plans to return to the moon in 2024 under the Artemis mission.
