Actor Vijay is likely to make his political debut in the 2026 assembly elections. He has a fan club cum welfare organisation ‘Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam’ which was formed in 2008.
Vijay is called Thalapathy by his fans and has been doing well in Tamil cinema for the past three decades. His film ‘Varisu’ is said to be the highest grosser of 2023. Another film titled ‘Leo’ is set for release later this year while ‘Thalapathy 68’, a tentative title, is scheduled for release next year.
Though the 48 year old actor planned to make his political debut just before the 2021 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, he put it off after he heard that superstar Rajinikanth was making an entry into politics. Now that Superstar has backed out, Vijay has decided to take the plunge.
Tamil Nadu has seen filmstars like MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalitha who excelled in politics and Vijay’s supporters say that his entry will trigger a lot of political excitement.
