For 90 year old Kanagavalli from Salem, age is just a number. She filed her papers and is contesting for the Muruganpatti panchayat elections  for the post of President amidst loud cheers.
Despite being a widow, her enthusiasm is laudable. What goes in her favour is that the post of Panchayat President has been reserved for women. People of her village were all praises for her and many fell at her feet seeking her blessings. Kanagavalli’s husband late Azaghesaboopathi had been the President of of the Muruganpatti panchayat before he passed away. Their son Parthasarathy had also been President for a period of 20 years while Kanagavalli herself held the post previously for a period of 5 years. Therefore the post has been held by one spirited family known for their public service for a period of 45 years. Kanagavalli told reporters that she would be happy to get another opportunity to serve the people as it’s president.
