Around 300 people mostly youngsters participated in a 75 km walkathon which covered five roads. It was organised by Walk for Plastics as part of Payanam 75.
The walk covered major roads which included Rajiv Gandhi Salai, Jawaharlal Nehru Salai and concluded at the Kathipara Junction at 5.30 p.m.on Sunday. The participants were mostly from the IT industry. Some of them walk everyday, collect plastic and sell it to the waste paper dealers and the money is contributed to the ragpickers to feed their families. At the walkathon, around 500 kgs of plastic was collected, the value of which totalled to Rs 45,000.
