World Tourism Day is commemorated each year on 27 September. The reason for World Tourism Day is to cultivate and create awareness among the society globally on the significance of tourism, and it’s social, political, financial and also cultural worth and value.

The occasion tries to address common difficulties stated by the United Nations of Millennium Development Goals. It is also to feature and recognize the commitment the tourism industry can make in achieving these objectives.

Acknowledging the pace with which tourism has grown as an industry, the United Nations World Tourism Organization announced 27th September as World Tourism Day in 1980 and has been celebrating the day since then. Each year sees a new theme and a new country as a host.

This year for the first time India will be hosting World Tourism Day which has the theme ‘Tourism and Jobs: a better future for all’. As the theme goes, the main objective of the program is to zero in on methods to open more avenues for job seekers in the field of tourism as it is a major source of employment because of its labor-intensive nature and the significant multiplier effect on employment in related sectors.
