Every year, the 2nd of September is observed as World Moral Day by World Humanitarian Drive as a remembrance of the last day of World War II. Numerous activities are carried out all over the world to mark this day.
World Humanitarian Drive is an international NGO founded by Dr. Abdul Basit Syed, a global peace activist who is based in London. WHD has its chapters spread over 12 countries across the world and is primarily engaged in humanitarian activities. Its primary aim is to promote peace, harmony and education.
This year, there was an event named “Leading Moral Cycle”- a 15 kms bicycle ride starting from the Madras War Memorial and ending at the Chembarambakkam Lake. It was done to honour the lives of soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the second World War. The inaugural flag off for the bicycle ride was done by Dr. Abdul Basit Syed and the cyclists were received by S. Meenakshi, the TN State President of WHD at the finish line.

Dr. Syed said ”We started this World Moral Day Campaign to reach millions of people just to say that War is not the solution and for all of us to contribute towards peace by remembering the lives of 40 million innocent people lost in World War II.”
Many cyclists from ”Ithu Namma Cycling Group “ – INCG, one of the active cycling groups in Chennai pledged their support to WHD by joining in this 15 km stretch. The founder of INCG, Shankar stated that their primary goal is to connect cyclists beyond cycling.
