The Madhya Pradesh High Court has observed that a wife has the right to know her husband’s salary details. This observation was made while hearing a maintenance petition of a lady who was seeking a higher amount of maintenance from her estranged husband.
Her plea was for enhanced maintenance from the paltry Rs 7,000/ she was being given as her husband was working as a senior officer with BSNL. She filed a Right to Information application to get his salary details. The High Court upheld her plea and held that the wife could not be denied the information and allowed the writ appeal.
