Vijay Mallya attempts to overturn bankruptcy order

Businessman Vijay Mallya has been in Britain for over 5 years. He is now making attempts to overturn a bankruptcy order imposed on him by the London High Court in July last year.
The case relates to a consortium of Indian banks led by State Bank of India to get repayment of an estimated debt of around GBP 1.05 billion that is due by the now defunct Kingfisher Airlines.


Mallya who is wanted on fraud and money laundering charges in India is on bail in the UK. Indian banks are represented by the law firm TLT LLP and barrister Marcia Shekerdemian . The bankruptcy order was passed against Mallya on July 26, 2021. Appeals against the order are being filed and will come up for hearing in the coming months.
